La Giraudiere Volunteer’s Experience
Summer 2014 – Salwan Cartwright-Shamoon (Ireland)
Have you ever wanted to have a holiday in the south-west of France? Or, have you ever had the opportunity to explore any part of the wonderful country of France?
La Giraudiere, or LG as it is known to those that have volunteered, openly invites you to be part of something quite special (all year round!), something that you can’t experience on a Thomas Cook ‘extravaganza’, and similarly, something which you can’t experience from the typical traveler’s hosteling experience’ – although you can make LG part of your planned European travels.
What on earth could this be? Well, it’s an unbelievable volunteer’s experience – but actually, it’s so much more. This testimonial is purposely meant to persuade you, and to get you excited about the wonderful opportunity LG has to offer you.
If you’re contemplating going, JUST GO! – That’s all there is to it, really!
I spent three weeks of my summer there and the experience was, quite simply, sublime! Highlights included meeting , eating , drinking and living with people from all around the world (including French people!); touring the world’s most prestigious wine region – Saint-Émilion – and spending an afternoon sampling their fine (complimentary!) Produce; but most of all, the ability to experience, from an insider’s perspective, just what it might be like to live there – thanks to the local popularity of the program’s enlightened visionary, Paul.
To experience the wonder that I’ve described, you need three things: money (though not a lot as it’s fantastic value check the site for prices at Volunteers Fees ), the willingness to do some work for around three days of the week (if I can do it, you DEFFINATELY can), and finally, the energy and openness to share your personality with the wonderful people around you!
