Although autumn officially started, it almost feels like summer at La Giraudiere on Sunday morning, and Denise takes full advantage of the warm weather and heads to Brossac early to see the town and practice her French a bit. When she came back we were all happy to see she had brought back some delicious local pate and cheese from our friends the butchers!
At noon Paul goes to the train station and picks up two new American volunteers, Katie and Brenda. It’s a busy day today at LG, so once they arrive they only have a few minutes to get ready to go to the Brossac football match.
Today two football games are being played in town, but we only get there in time to see Brossac’s A team play against Chateaubernard. A lot of our Brossac friends are there and it’s a great opportunity for the volunteers to practice their French, meet new people and learn a few new words.
The game was exciting and fast; there were a couple of injuries, which made us stand up and complain (one of the players broke a rib!); and a penalty kick that allowed Brossac to score a second a point and everyone to cheer happily on the bench.
In the end, Brossac won 2-0, and the entire town was satisfied.
It was still sunny and warm once the game was over, so the volunteers decided to go down to the lake and have a swim. At the lake we met with Indira and Emilie and all sat down on the sand.
While there, we saw some powered parachutes appear in the horizon. They were nice and colourful… and then a yellow parachute kept getting closer, and closer, and closer!
…did he want to come and volunteer at LG too? 😉
