South West France Map
The region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine is the largest administrative region in France, spanning the West and South West of France. The region was created by the governmental reforms of French regions in 2014 through the merger of three regions: Aquitaine, Limousine and Poitou-Charente.
The region is a treasure chest of history and well worth a visit. To the south of the region we have The mountain range called The Pyrenees a mountain range separates the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of Europe, stretching more than 430km between Spain and France and rising higher than 3,000m in elevation.
To the west of the region is the atlantic coastline also known as the south west France coastline.
To the north of the coastline is Aiguillon Bay to the south, the Bay of Txingudi . The south-west Coastline of France is an incredibly-varied coastline, boasting a wealth of biodiversity and history, taking in over 970 km of estuaries, islands, beaches, dunes, sandbanks, mudflats, cliffs.
Where everything is battered by the waves of the Bay of Biscay. Ports, rivers, lighthouses, a whole maritime tradition has been inscribed on this coastline, from the cod fishermen of La Rochelle to the whale hunters in Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
